На відкритті Бієнале сучасного мистецтва в Ларнаці, присвяченого темі «Home away from home», активісти зʼявилися у футболках з написами “Art beyond politics is μαλακίες” “Η τέχνη έξω από την πολιτική είναι bullshit”. Ідея перформансу народилася під час інтервʼю, яке журналісти UKRCY.news (новинний ресурс українців на Кіпрі) брали в української художниці й мисткині – Ксенії Оксінь (її робота під назвою «Be-in-itself» представлена на Бієнале).

At the opening of the Biennale of Contemporary Art in Larnaca, dedicated to the theme 'Home away from home,' activists appeared wearing T-shirts with inscriptions in a mix of English and Greek that read, "Art beyond politics is μαλακίες" and "Η τέχνη έξω από την πολιτική είναι bullshit." The idea for this performance emerged during an interview conducted by journalists from UKRCY.news (a news resource for Ukrainians in Cyprus) with Ukrainian artist Ksenja Oksin (whose work titled 'Be-in-itself' is presented at the Biennale).

У наші часи, коли світ здригається від соціальних катастроф, війн, терористичних атак, все частіше можна почути фразу «Мистецтво поза політикою», якою представники того ж мистецтва виправдовують власну байдужість, небажання розбиратися, зайняти чітку громадянську позицію. Вони вважають себе вищими за мирську метушню, адже їх покликання йде чи не від самого Бога, їх талант має пережити всі катаклізми і сяяти безумовно й безперечно.
На наше переконання, не існує мистецтва поза політикою. Мистецтво поза політикою – це цирк, якщо не використовувати більш прийнятні в цьому випадку нецензурні характеристики. Цирк – це «дивись, як я можу». Технічне виконання, майстерність володіння пензлем – для художників, власним тілом – для танцюристів, музичним інструментом – для музик, словом – для письменників і поетів, не робить виконавця митцем. Це ремесло, продаж свого вміння за гроші, або захопливі вигуки «вау». У таких творіннях немає душі, думки, сенсів.

We’re firmly convicted that real Art is not born when a bored creator contemplates what else to paint, write, or dance. Art is born when emotions and experiences overflow and cannot be restrained, when they spill onto paper, into sounds, into performances.

Ми глибоко переконані, що мистецтво народжується не тоді, коли знудьгований тв орець роздумує, що б ще йому таке намалювати, написати чи затанцювати, а коли переживання й емоції ллються через край, і неможливо стримати їх, щоб вони не вилилися на папір, у звуки, у перформанс.

"In our times, when the world shudders from social catastrophes, wars, and terrorist attacks, one often hears the phrase, 'Art is beyond politics,' used by representatives of the arts to justify their own indifference and reluctance to take a clear civic stance. They consider themselves above the worldly chaos, as their calling, they believe, comes almost from the divine, and their talent should shine unconditionally and unquestionably through all cataclysms. In our view, there is no art beyond politics. Art divorced from politics is a circus, if we may use a more suitable but less censorious term. A circus is a display of 'look at what I can do.' Technical skill and mastery of a brush for painters, one's body for dancers, a musical instrument for musicians, words for writers and poets, do not alone make an artist. It is rather a craft, selling one's ability for money, or seeking only applause and exclamations of 'wow.' In such creations, there is no soul, thought, or meaning.

Митець – це той, хто переживає події навколишнього світу, переосмислює, досліджує. Не може існувати митця з ампутованою емпатією, котрий може поспіхом проходити повз біль і страждання до своєї майстерні, котрого не зачіпає те, що його рідне місто зрівнюють із землею бомбами, а його рідні, близькі та друзі беруть до рук зброю і йдуть захищати Батьківщину. Так само неможливо висловлювати таким митцям співчуття та підтримку і, в той же час, запрошувати їх на події разом із представниками країни-агресора, які без тіні докорів сумління виступають від імені держави, яка розвʼязує криваву бійню. Мистецтво не може бути поза політикою, мистецтво – це дзеркало, в якому відбивається життя, безпосередній вплив на яке має політика. На жаль, у багатьох людей, які називають себе митцями, в цьому дзеркалі порожньо, оскільки до життя їм – байдуже.

An artist is one who experiences the events of the world around them, reinterprets, and explores them. An artist cannot exist with amputated empathy, one who can pass by pain and suffering, rushing to their studio, untouched by the fact that their homeland is being leveled by bombs or that their loved ones, friends, and family take up arms to defend their country. Similarly, it is impossible to express sympathy and support to such artists while inviting them to events alongside representatives of an aggressor country who, without the slightest twinge of conscience, act on behalf of a state that fuels a bloody conflict.
Art cannot be beyond politics; art is a mirror reflecting life, directly influenced by politics. Unfortunately, in many people who call themselves artists, this mirror remains empty, as life means nothing to them.

Participate in the flash mob:
1) Take a photo in a T-shirt with the inscription "Art beyond politics is μαλακίες" and “Η τέχνη έξω από την πολιτική είναι bullshit” at the locations of the Larnaca Biennale exhibition, which runs until November 24.
2) Post the photo on Instagram, tagging both the Biennale page and the art performance page.
Among the flash mob participants, we will raffle a free spot in a contemporary art masterclass by Ksenja Oksin.
